What is Active Holiday and why it attracts more and more tourists
The term active holiday, or even traveling holiday, refers to those trips that are carried out in uncommon destinations and with different means. In an active holiday the main purpose is to discover the traditions and culture of the place, going beyond the main tourist attractions. This type of holiday presupposes a lot of curiosity and desire to learn. But let's try to understand what a traveling holiday specifically is, where it comes from and what its characteristics are.
Active holiday: what is it
The traveling holiday, although it is experiencing great diffusion especially in recent years, is not a recent invention. To be honest, some factors that characterize this type of travel have been present since ancient times.
To give a more precise definition of the concept, we can define an active holiday as that journey carried out on the less common routes and which involves constant movement along the itinerary by different means (car, train, motorbike, bicycle, boat or even simply on foot). The ultimate aim of this type of trip is to discover the culture and tradition of the places visited
Therefore, as can easily be understood, itinerant tourism is exactly the opposite of what is defined as mass tourism, i.e. the set of trips made to common destinations or even to resorts and villages. In our country, active travel is widespread not only because Italy is full of natural beauty to immerse yourself in, but also because it is dotted with many small villages to get lost in. Here, in fact, it is possible to take a journey into the artisanal and culinary traditions of individual places, two elements that characterize traveling tourism.
Active holidays and sports tourism
Particularly linked to the concept of active tourism is the concept of sports tourism. It is the set of those sports activities, such as canoeing, cycle touring, sailing, hang gliding, parachuting, trekking, golf, kitesurfing, kayaking, windsurfing, diving, climbing, horse riding, paragliding, carried out in a place other than where you live. Sports tourism began around the 1980s, spreading especially in Europe and the USA. Over the years it has experienced a strong rise, especially in recent decades.
Itinerant travel and sustainable tourism
A traveling holiday is also characterized by sustainability. In fact, those who usually undertake active travel tend to have a minimal impact and respect the natural heritage of the place. The very use of non-polluting means makes the eco-friendly traveling holiday.
There are no specific seasons for making a trip of this type, as it is possible to leave in any month of the year.
