What is Glamping and why is it so appreciated

The world of turismo is constantly evolving and every year innovative and original trends emerge. In recent times there is a new term that is literally becoming popular: glamping. It's about a word of English origin which indicates a new way of conceiving classic camping. In particular, the term comes from the fusion of "camping" and "glamour". To understand what we are talking about, later we will try to delve deeper into this new trend.

Glamping: what it is and why it is increasingly widespread

The term glamping, the result of the combination of the first syllables of "glamour" and "camping", was used for the first time in Great Britain in 2005. But what is it specifically? Glamping is a cross between classic camping and a stay in a hotel. In fact, this new trend combines the beauty of outdoor life with the luxurious comforts that are usually found in large hotels. We are therefore not just talking about comforts such as the bed or bathroom, but also about other luxury elements, without ever forgetting that we are completely immersed in uncontaminated nature.

In short, it's about a totally innovative way of conceiving camping, as it allows you to overcome the Spartan lifestyle typical of this type of experience, without giving up living outdoors. Everything takes place in absolutely eco-compatible structures, designed and built to guarantee maximum respect for the environment. Although glamping as we have just described it was born only in recent decades, some historical evidence has shown how this phenomenon existed in a more rudimentary form already in the past. In particular, this type of accommodation was quite widespread as early as the 16th century in some European countries, including France and Scotland.

As we were saying, however, it is especially in recent times that glamping is becoming a real trend, even in Italy, a country which was one of the first in which the phenomenon was particularly appreciated. This is most likely due to the large quantity of natural resources present in our national territory, which have always made the Belpaese the ideal place to spend time in contact with nature. It is no coincidence, therefore, that, according to some research carried out by the JFC company, glamping in Italy is worth a turnover of 22 million euros per year.

The various types of glamping

When we talk about glamping we shouldn't think of a unitary and well-defined phenomenon. In fact, there are many ways in which this new trend manifests itself. First of all, we must distinguish between the different types of ecosystem in which it is possible to find these accommodations. In addition to parks and forests, glamping can also be found in jungles, deserts and mountainous areas. Furthermore, there are also many forms of glamping. Among the most widespread are tree houses, but the so-called ones are also equally popular yurta, or wooden structures with a circular shape. Just as safari tents are also widespread, also made of wood but with a resistant sloping roof. This typology, although found especially in safari areas, can also be created in other types of ecosystems. They also constitute a form of glamping l’eco lodge, widespread especially in Japan, and the igloo. Finally, you can also find tipis, that is, structures that recall the style of small American Indian houses. They are often made from wooden logs and covered with fabric. In short, glamping is synonymous with creativity and also thanks to this characteristic, it is very likely that in the future the phenomenon will take on increasingly larger dimensions.
