Tourism and trends: the trends of the future
The world of tourism is experiencing a constant transformation and 2024 is no exception. According to the 2023 edition of Changing Traveller Report di SiteMinder, 57% of global hotel guests (and 58% of Italians) want to spend more time traveling this year. This report offers an in-depth look at future tourism trends, from international destinations to accommodation preferences and technological challenges. Let's find out what is driving the tourism industry in this exciting year.
International travel on the rise
A key finding emerging from the report is the desire to travel more, both globally and within Italy. 42% of travelers worldwide want to go far away, a desire also shared by Italians, who exceed this figure with 43%. This trend reflects a growing desire to explore new cultures and discover extraordinary places around the world.
Different Accommodation Preferences
However, the analysis shows that theprice increase it's forcing consumers to make choices. Italians are among the most affected by inflation. 88% say price increases will impact their choice of accommodation, compared to the global average of 80%. Some will opt for cheaper rooms or shorten the length of their stay. Despite this, 85% of Italian travelers are willing to spend more to obtain quality accommodation, especially a structure that offers spaces for family and friends and wellness services.
Technological Challenges in the Hotel Industry
While Italian travelers are willing to spend more for quality accommodation, they struggle with technological challenges in the hotel industry. 65% are willing to tolerate lower service standards due to staff shortages, but the technological aspect is a point of criticism. Many believe that the booking experience and stay could be significantly improved if hotel facilities were more technologically advanced.
Better Booking Experiences
Italians, however, are not always favorable to technology. Half of those surveyed gave up on an online booking due to a bad experience. Websites that appear unsafe, complicated booking processes and difficulty navigating on mobile devices are the main factors contributing to a negative experience.
This data reveals the complexity of Italian travellers' expectations and highlights the importance of a smooth and reliable hotel booking experience.
Tourism in 2024, therefore, is characterized by a growing desire to travel, different accommodation preferences and technological challenges. Italian travellers, while eager to explore the world, are budget-conscious and seek quality accommodations. Hotels that invest in technology and simplify the booking process will therefore be able to better meet the needs of travelers of the future.
